I'm Vivek, and I'm from India. I attend school in Melbourne. My flight from Delhi to Melbourne was delayed. And it had a four-hour layover in Dubai. As I was in transit when I landed in Dubai for transit, during the security check the official noticed a beep and asked me to return and re-enter. His request was extremely impolite and made me feel humiliated as I was being treated poorly in front of everyone. I explained that it was due to a religious silver chain that I had worn since I was seven years old. I explained the official whitest, but he denied me and never allowed me to speak, refusing harshly and making me feel uncomfortable. This disheartened me and made me feel worse about myself because he caused me to feel this way. However, it was my connecting flight, and I did not wish to miss it. He forced me to abandon my religious honour, which I had upheld for centuries, and sent me to remove it. After approaching while I was keeping it on the tray and proceeding, he smiled and chuckled at me as I re-entered the terminal for check-in.
Why was I treated this way? When I showed a silver chain to other officials, they said it was acceptable, and now I must explain myself to that official again. After I explained everything, he disregarded me and I felt humiliated.
Hey Vivek, I am very sorry that you were abused by the security official at Dubai airport. This has been reported to Dubai Airports Company. In the future please ask for and get the name of any official who mistreats you.
