Charles de Gaulle International Airport Abuse Report

This incident occured at the security checkpoint in terminal 2A, the area dedicated for Agates (mine was A39). It was the first row on the right. While I was already in line and my belongings were being pushed through the X-ray, I was instructed to remove all of my liquids. Because my bags were already moving through the checkpoint, I was trying to comply as quickly as possible. I removed my makeup from its pouch and placed it into the clear plastic liquids bag that was handed to me, then opened my suitcase to retrieve my remaining toiletries.

At that point, the security officer yelled that I was only allowed one liquids bag. This was the first time I had been informed of that requirement and she had already pushed my half filled bag through the machine while I was getting my other toiletries, all of which were within the 100mL limit. All of them would also have fit into the bag. I was confused as to what to do because i had other items in the bag. She told me i need to throw it all away. I said I couldn’t because I needed things inside. I explained that I needed the items and asked if there was another option. When I mentioned my retainer, the officer grabbed my toiletry bag from my hands, dumped the contents into a bin, shoved the liquids into my hands aggressively, and directed me to throw them away. This included an expensive leave-in conditioner and other compliant travel-size toiletries.
I understand that security rules regarding liquids must be enforced. My concern is not with the rules themselves, but with how they were applied. I was never informed of the one-bag requirement until I was already attempting to comply, and I was not given a reasonable opportunity to consolidate all of my compliant travel-size liquids into a single bag before being ordered to discard them. I also found the officer’s manner unnecessarily aggressive and intimidating.
I was already extremely overwhelmed and the situation gave me and incredible amount of anxiety. By the time I reached the end of the security checkpoint to collect my belongings, I was in tears. It was humiliating, and I felt as though I was being treated with unnecessary hostility while simply trying to follow the instructions I had been given.
