As a very frequent flyer, I completely understand and am fully aware of the stresses involved whilst going through security. However, this morning I have never experienced (or maybe not noticed before), the impact the staff as a whole, have on adding to that stress.
I am not hard of hearing so therefore, there was very little requirement for every member of staff to be shouting at all members of the public.
If the justification is that they need to get their message across, then my personal experience of dealing with hundreds of not thousands of people regularly, is that only a small minority respond to shouting and aggressive instruction.
Lastly, the level of sarcastic comments made by your staff members in security, was completely unacceptable. Members of the travelling public around me, were clearly very aware of the level of aggression and stress out on them by the security staff. Therefore they were nervous whilst trying to get through the situation as quickly as possible. In that environment, some mistakes will happen as they rush whilst being ‘barked’ at. One level of support that is not required, nor any form of assistance is sarcasm.
If I had a further choice to travel to my regular destinations, without using Manchester Airport, I would not hesitate in using that other option.
Hey Simon, your description of Manchester Airport is sadly spot on. The problem is the Manchester council has ownership over the airport and they give jobs to people based on who their people like not based on competency. Sadly, Manchester airport is one of the WORST airports in Europe. And it's horrible simply because the WORST employees are hired and promoted through backroom deals not based on competence. It's a sad state of affairs.
If you have any choice then you should simply avoid Manchester. That's what I do.
